अयं बन्धुरयं नेति गणना लघुचेतसाम् | उदारचरितानां तु वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् ||
ayaṁ bandhurayaṁ nēti gaṇanā laghucētasām | udāracaritānām tu vasudhaiva kuṭumbakam || (Mahōpaniṣad- VI.70-73)
Discrimination by people saying "this one is a relative; this other one is a stranger" is for the mean-minded. For those who are understanding and well informed , the entire world constitutes but a family.
The above verse is also found in V.3.37 of Panchatantra (3rd century BCE), in the in 1.3.71 of Hitopadesha - (12th century CE).
The statement is not just about peace and harmony in and among the societies in the world, but also about a truth that somehow the whole world has to live together like a family.
Inspired by this thought process, we at Rakshak have a motivated and persevering desire of making the world a little more friendlier, a little more caring, a little more social!
Our modest activity over the last 23 years has bought us closer to the people whose lives we have been able to change in some way or the other and has made them a part of our large happy family. All through these years, our activities have been commensurate to the means and resources we have had at our disposal over the years. From donating blankets, assisting with providing education to children from economically weaker sections via scholarships, enabling women empowerment in modest yet meaningful ways, helping in rehabilitation or even just being there to listen to the words of sorrow and deprivation from the neglected elderly, we have learnt a lot. The time has now come to step up our activities and do more. We are singularly sincerely committed to this. It is now our passion, our driving force.
Situated on 5 acres of serene landscape, not too far, just a 45 minutes’ drive from Ruby Hospital, yet away from the urban conglomerate of Kolkata, at 41, Alipore Road we at Rakshak have taken the first small step by creating a loving and caring home away from home for the senior citizens of society.
Natural settings, beautiful landscaped gardens, children’s park, small water bodies and a plethora of activities where the present generation can interact and live with those who have led a fulfilling and meaningful life but wish to celebrate the creases on their skins as laughter lines and not wrinkles!
